What to Write in Your Dating Profile

Your profile isn't a resume. It's a window into who you are. Here's what actually works.

Start with a genuine headline

Bad: "Looking for love" or "Ask me anything"
Good: "Adventure seeker with a terrible sense of direction" or "Will cook for you (but can't guarantee it's edible)"

Write 2-3 sentences about who you are

Be specific. Don't just say "I like traveling"—say "I've been to 12 countries and I'm obsessed with finding the best local coffee in every city." Show, don't tell. People connect with specificity.

Share what a date with you would look like

"Our first date would probably be a hike followed by grabbing tacos and talking until the restaurant closes" beats a blank. It invites people into your world.

Mention 1-2 passions (not a list)

Instead of "I like music, sports, food, and travel," pick two and go deep: "I'm obsessed with live music—been to 30+ shows this year" or "I run half-marathons, mainly so I can eat guilt-free afterwards."

Be clear about what you're looking for

"Looking for something real" or "Want to build something meaningful" resonates. So does "Open to seeing where things go" if that's true. Honesty attracts compatible people.

Add a touch of humor or vulnerability

"My love language is bad puns and terrible dance moves" or "Still figuring out my life, but I'm fun to hang out with while I do" feels real and approachable.

What NOT to write

✗ Lists of dealbreakers
✗ "My ex did this..." or any ex-blaming
✗ "I'm brutally honest" (usually means rude)
✗ Generic stuff everyone says
✗ Anything negative or bitter
✗ Too much detail about what you're NOT looking for

Answer profile prompts with personality

Prompt: "My ideal weekend is..."
Bad answer: "Relaxing with friends"
Good answer: "Sleeping in, making a ridiculous breakfast, catching a movie, and not checking my email"

Bottom line: Write like you're texting a friend, not applying for a job. Be specific, authentic, and show personality. The goal is to help the right people recognize that you're the one they're looking for.
